What does simplicity mean to you?

Every good designer can add beauty and function to objects. The great ones know when to stop.

What do notions like timeless or durability mean to you?

Timelessness for us is very important. We have little interest in designing objects with static positions in time. When an object is designed we feel that its form should be assembled from elements that are necessary to its basic function or aesthetic function. Any styling beyond that should simply be aiding the understanding of how the object is framed. Durability is tied to timelessness, as an object that has the materiality to transcend eras should be able to fit aesthetically into any of those eras.

What would you consider the perfect product?

The perfect product is a product that doesn’t have to sacrifice anything to fulfill its function and be aesthetically pleasing. It is close to impossible to design something that both pleases the eye and functions flawlessly without their being some sacrifice of aesthetics or function.

What sort of item would you consider passing on to your grandchildren? How would you describe it?

Any object that remains useful should be passed on. Many of the objects that we own and use are things that once belonged to our parents. Watches, furniture, clothing... when we are finished with them or pass away, we will pass these things on to our children. If an object still fulfills its aesthetic and functional roles than there is no need to replace it. It is much better to pass it on and prevent another unneeded object from being produced.
